Lobster Jam 2003

A smaller Lobster Jam this year, but still lots of fun. The Lobster Jam 2003 was only confirmed within the last week prior to the date. With so many people uncertain about their summer plans, it took one final decision from a Jammer to bring it all together. Guff, the Jello Boy, called in with his plans to drive in from St. Louis for the 2003 Jam!

Word started to spread as several on the fence Jammers made their plans and ordered their lobsters. Although this Jam was smaller with several notable long time Jammers absent (such as Vere, Terry, Craig, and others) it was still a lot of food, fun and friends.

The day started out with a problem breakfast meeting. Some confusion between where to meet ended with some staffers enjoying their breakfast at 230 Cafe while the rest ate at 230 Diner. After a hearty morning meal, everyone gathered to begin the setup. Tarps were unpacked and setup, and not soon enough as early morning sprinkles turned quickly to showers and down pours. Some of the worse storms came just as six people carried the large tarp around the house. There’s nothing quite like carrying a large metal pipe frame in an open field during a lightning storm! With the tarps set, the tables out, and cook stove setup it was time for a break and the run for the beer and ice.

Kiss the cook!?!As with all Lobster Jams the party started as people began arriving some time in late afternoon and early evening. The pot was fired up and the lobster cooking commenced. Many long time Jammers arrived to enjoy the party. In addition to the long travel made by Guff, some other notables traveled from out of town to attend. Tim aka Little Joey made the drive up from Virginia to visit with all. Joining him on the trip was his oldest boy Nicholas, age 4, who seemed to enjoy the yard, swing and made some friends with others his age. Also making the trip was Angus down from the Northern Territory (ok...it was only Wilkes Barre, PA) to visit with everyone for the weekend.

Are you looking at me?Lobsters were served in the traditional manner, with melted butter and fresh corn on the cob. Those that attended brought cover dishes including sides and desserts. Wash it all down with a cold beverage. YUMMY! As with past Lobster Jams, when Guff is there, the Jello is shooting! Yep even with a small jam Guff made some Pineapple, Rasberry, Wild Berry and Berry Blue flavored shots.

With 2003 Lobster Jam in the books, plans are underway for Lobster Jam 2004. Sunday night with the Jam finished, Spike, Donna and Guff sat by a bonfire and discussed possibilities for Jam 2004 to be bigger and better.
